(The Hillside Press, 1970)
Nicely executed miniature. Nine fables, each with an illustration. The translator is the same as in my 1888 version. Florian's fables still strike me as preachy: there is little action and plenty of moralizing talk.
Fables de M. de Florian
(Delarue Librarie-éditeur,Delarue, Libraire-Éditeur, 1850)
As was true of the LaFontaine edition I have from the same publisher, I cannot find this work in Bodemann, though Pauquet is mentioned four times there for other editions. There is no mention in Bodemann of either Emy or ...
Florian: Fables, Précédées d'une Étude sur la Fable, Suivies de Tobie et de Ruth et Accompagnées de Notes
(Librairie Hachette et Cie, 1881)
I am surprised to learn that this handy little volume is my first Hachette copy of Florian. The five books of fables seem to be all there on this book's 140 pages, with an AI at the back and a few simple designs along the way.
Fables de Florian, Suivies de Tobie et de Ruth
(J.-J. Dubochet et Cie, 1842)
For some time, I have wanted to get an early Grandville Florian. Here is the earliest! It was a major find for me with an old friend at an impressive international book fair. François Coté describes the qualities of the ...
Les Meilleures Fables de Florian
(La Technique du Livre, 1950)
I regret that it has taken me two-and-a-half years to catalogue this lovely pamphlet. Its 32 pages contain some fifteen fables. Every fable has an illustration. All but two of these are delightful polychromatics. Two ...
Oeuvres de Florian: Les Fables
(Edité spécialement pour les Magasins du Bon MarchéP. Brodard, 1890)
I do not have a complete set of the Grandville illustrations for Florian's 110 poems. In the meantime, the selection here is fine, and the printing is fair. It is nice to encounter illustrations I have already enjoyed ...
A Selection of Fables from Florian and Other Authors
(J. Hatchard and Son 187 Picadilly,, 1837)
It is rare to find Florian translated into English. In this small (3½ x 5½) pamphlet one finds twelve from Florian, three from Dodsley, and three Scraps from a Portfolio. Most of Florian's twelve are in my collections ...
Fables de Florian
(Librairie Théodore Lefèvre et Émile GuérinLibrairie de Thèodore Lefévre Émile Guérin, 1890)
This seems to me to be a smaller later edition of what is described in Bodemann #355.1. The engravings here are frequent and helpful for understanding what is going on in Florian's fables. There is an illustration about ...
Fables de Florian
(Nigel Gauvin, Éditeur, 1991)
Here is an inexpensive presentation of all five books of Florian's fables along with his epilogue. This edition contains twelve illustrations by Bertall. Bertall is a nom de plume for Charles-Albert d'Arnoux (1820-82). ...
Les Fables de Florian. 8me Série
(Imagerie d'Epinal Pellerin & Cie,Imagerie d'Épinal: Pellerin & Cie., 1870)
Here is a 48-page pamphlet in good condition. The cover shows The Rabbit and the Teal. The title-page has a black-and-white design of a kangaroo. The text itself then offers fifteen handcolored plates. They are only ...
