Select Fables of Esop and Other Fabulists. In Three Books. A New Edition

Aesop; Dodsley, James; Dodsley, Robert (Printed for J. Dodsley, 1773)
Compare this book with my 1761 first edition, done by Stockdale in Birmingham. See my comments there. This copy lacks the frontispiece and has experienced some repairs. It is rebound in vellum covered boards, slightly ...

Fables of Aesop and Others. Translated into English. With Instructive Applications and a Print before each Fable

Aesop; Croxall, Samuel (W. Strahan et al, 1778)
Bodemann #107.2 calls this edition a Leicht veraenderter Nachdruck of the 1722 first edition. She refers to the illustrations as Nachschnitte--is that certain? If so, the imitation is very precise. Close inspection may ...

Bewick's Select Fables of Aesop and Others

Aesop; Bewick, Thomas; Dodsley, Robert,; Goldsmith, Oliver,; Pearson, Edwin (1784: T. Saint/1878: Longmans, Green, 1776)
Lovely, if sometimes simple, wood engravings. The best may be TT and DS. This is apparently an early work of Bewick's, not to be confused with the classic 1818 edition. Tripartite AI at the back.

(Select Fables of Esop and Other Fabulists. In Three Books. A New Edition)

Aesop; Dodsley, James; Dodsley, Robert (J. Dodsley?, 1775)
This damaged book is very close to one I have listed with under 1773, with J. Dodsley as the publisher. That date is given on the title page there. The plates are similar but never exactly the same. In the Life of Aesop, ...

Aesop; Bewick, Thomas; Dodsley, Robert; Goldsmith, Oliver,; Pearson, Edwin (1784: T. Saint/1871: Bickers and Son, 1776)
Lovely, if sometimes simple, wood engravings. The best may be TT and DS. This is apparently an early work of Bewick's, not to be confused with the classic 1818 edition. Tripartite AI at the back. This copy is superior ...

Francisci-Josephi Desbillons Fabulae Aesopiae, Curis Posterioribus Omnes Fere Emendatae: Quibus Accesserunt Plus Quam CLXX Novae

Aesop; Desbillons, François-Joseph Terrasse (editor,) (translator) (typis J. Barbou, 1778)
Here is a well-preserved book announcing itself as the sixth edition of Desbillons' Aesopic fables. I find it very hard to distinguish from the fifth edition of 1769. A random check finds no differences. See my comments ...
