Fables of La Fontaine
(Chartwell Books, 1982)
Doré's illustrations were done in 1868 with a translation from the French by Thornbury. A beautiful book. AI at the back. The full-page illustrations are really grand. Only a few of them make the kind of shift I enjoy ...
Fabels van La Fontaine
(Van Goor jeugdboeken, 1982)
The pen-and-ink illustrations sometimes miss, like the cover-illustration that does not focus on the lost cheese. The best illustration is of the monkey and dolphin on 42. My first find in Amsterdam.
Le Piú Belle Favole di La Fontaine.
Cheap watercolors. Maybe the fox of FG is worth using in a slide lecture in one of the three scenes they give him here. He has a good grimace when he leaves, and he uses a table to get at the grapes!
A Hundred Fables of LaFontaine
(Distributed by Crown PublishersGreenwich House: Crown Publishers, 1983)
Alphabetical list of fables at the front. Each of the hundred fables has a striking black-and-white illustration by Billinghurst. The translations seem short and to the point.
Fabels van La Fontaine
A small gift booklet. For their size both the full-page reproductions and the vignettes come out surprisingly well. Sixty pages, with sixteen fables.
La Fontaine's Fables
(André Deutsch, 1984)
This book snuck up on me. The pictures are adequate. The poetic renditions of LaFontaine are good, brief enough, and sometimes quite witty. Surprises: the frogs and rabbits are both cowards; the crow is flattered for ...
Fables de La Fontaine 1
(Les Éditions Tormont, 1997)
First in a boxed series of five little books, parallel with the Tormont English series done in 1998. In fact, I had found the other four books in the series, without the box, earlier. Thus I am particularly delighted to ...
Fables de J. de la Fontaine, Nouvelle Édition, 2 volumes in one
(Delarue Libraires-Editeurs,H. Delarue et Companie, 1850)
I cannot find this work in either Bodemann or Bassy, though Pauquet is mentioned four times in the former and once in the latter for other editions. There is no mention of either Emy or Delarue. 143 and 212 pages for ...
Dix Fables de la Fontaine
Here is a second copy of a lovely booklet. This one is numbered #3463. Let me repeat comments from the original copy. This booklet is an anniversary memento from a Swiss firm that makes watches. The outside and inside ...
La Fontaine: Valmid; Aisopose Elu (Estonian: La Fontaine: Fables; Life of Aesop)
(Eesti Raamat, 1993)
La Fontaine's Life of Aesop runs from 65 to 93 in this little (4½ x 6¾) book. Twenty-six of La Fontaine's fables are on 7-62. Helm's art is curious. As the dust-jacket's cover shows, her art tends to slivers, small lines ...
