I have a copy of this two-volume work in poorer shape. I add this second copy for two reasons. First, it is in good condition, better condition than that pair of volumes. Secondly, I celebrate the triumph of finding this spectacular pair of volumes for a ridiculous price. It seems that Bodemann found a three volume edition of 1839, listed, like this pair, as "Nouvelle Edition." That there was already a "Nouvelle Edition" in 1838, the year of publication, complicates things. The illustrations in this pair of volumes are very well rendered, with only occasional foxing. Gilt page edges. The overlay on the non-leather parts of the covers is starting to come loose, revealing the fascinating substratum used for fine books in the middle of the nineteenth century. As an example of how well the illustrations are rendered in this edition and copy, notice XII.24, "Le Soleil et les Grenouilles, " facing 258.en_US
