First Paragraph: The reform of our present calendar is a subject on which probably more printers’ ink has been wasted during recent years than on any other. Each scheme proposed—and there are at least seventy-two of them, as the French Academy testifies—is in the mind of its originator the best that has ever been devised, it is the most convenient, the simplest, the easiest—in a word, it has nothing but advantages, and it is the only one that can lay claim to this honor.
