This is one of three books in a series. I have "an everlasting collection" but need to find "a precious collection." Wilco books seem to be consistent in using very heavy paper. A second surprise in this volume is that it starts the first story, GGE, without bothering to offer a title-page for the book. The illustrations are quintessential computer generated "comics." The back cover and back dust-jacket list the twelve fables here. Each story is 16 pages long. GGE has two unusual twists. First, it is hard for the farmer and his wife to find which hen is laying golden eggs. After many days of golden eggs, they want to cut the hen open, not to get the mine of gold but to get all the golden eggs. "Greed brings just punishment." The unnamed artist for this volume may have most fun picturing "The Lion in Love." In this fable, it is the girl that comes up with the plan to foil the lion. The surprising moral of LS is "It is better to be alive hungry than to be dead." In MSA, the trio make it to market, but the farmer says on the way home that they have been cruel to the donkey and should carry him back. That is when they cross a river and lose the donkey. The milkmaid is a dreamer from the beginning. It is a panther that attacks and over overcomes the stag who had been looking at himself in the water.en_US
