La Fontaine: Fables (Cover: Le Corbeau et le renard)

Abstract

Four fables are announced on the title-page of this 6.5"x8" kids' book: TT, MM, FC, and "Le Renard et le Bouc." They occur in the order FC, MM, TT, and "Le Renard et le Bouc." The La Fontaine text is unchanged. There is a long list of other booklets in the same collection, among which I notice only TH as a fable book. The others I have in the "Les Albums Roses" series are 1953 "La Fontaine: Fables," including MSA, "Le Loup Devenu Berger," UP, and WL; 1953/56 "La Fontaine: Fables," including MSA, "Le Loup Devenu Berger," UP, and WL; 1956 "La Fontaine: Fables," including TH, TMCM, and "The Cat, Weasel, and Little Rabbit"; and 1967 "La Fontaine: Fables," including TT, MM, and "Le Renard et le Bouc." It seems, then, that Hachette changed the present 1953 item into that 1967 item. The Romain Simon colored illustrations are, as always, engaging. They seem unchanged from Simon's work elsewhere.
