Implementation of a Motivational Interviewing, in Primary Care, in the Treatment of Obesity, in Adults
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Adult obesity has been an issue for many years and only continues to rise with each passing year. Center for Disease Control (CDC), estimates that 93.3 million adults, in the United States alone, are obese (CDC, 2018). These adult patients need assistance from their primary care providers to decrease these rates. Healthcare providers are responsible for screening and detecting those at risk for obesity, however, due to time, are unable to spend the appropriate amount of time that it takes to make an impact on weight loss with adult patients. Motivational interviewing needs to be implemented in the primary care setting to help educate, counsel, and follow-up with patients. By having motivational interviewing, in the primary care setting, rates of obesity will decrease, along with the number of morbidities and co-morbidities, and increase motivational rates to lose weight. This project further explains the importance of having motivational interviewing, in the primary care setting, to help overweight and obese adults.
