    Abstract
    INTRODUCTION

    Warranties are given to protect and assure the consumer that a purchased product will be as expected. Nowhere is this reliance so great as where the purchase is of a new automobile. Financially, this type of investment is considerable, frequently the largest a consumer will make. Such an investment is not only financial, but sentimental as well. For many, the investment is a reflection of one's personality; it is a symbol of one's accomplishments. When a substantial problem with the vehicle develops and repeated visits to the repair shop do not produce satisfactory answers, the consumer becomes aware that he may be the owner ofin popular parlance-a "lemon"...
