    Abstract
    FIRST PARAGRAPH(S)

The most important lessons we can teach in law school are that each human being is important and that people can change the world. If a new lawyer starts practice with those beliefs, then each client will be treated with dignity and with care; and, each lawyer will make whatever efforts are required and allowed under law to protect each client's rights. I cite this personal conviction as an introduction to my view of the contributions made by Professor Frances Ryan, in whose memory this volume is dedicated. Others will write about Frances Ryan as a colleague, about her personal and professional life, and about Professor Ryan as a mentor and friend...
