The Lion, the Cock and the Ass (Chinese)

Abstract

This is a very pleasing series of twelve 12-page pamphlets of unusual proportions, namely just under 10 inches square. The two-page spreads here are dramatic, from the lying spying both cock and ass across the river, to both bellowing, to the lion slinking away, to the ass braying while in pursuit, to the lion overwhelming the ass. The last picture tellingly shows the cock perched on the ass's bare rib-cage bones. Well done to both Pattheera Chantarasarojana and to the publishers of such a fine fable book!
