Here is an extra copy of this book without an inscription. I loved Wonk's New Fables (1997) and so ordered this book immediately--only to find a few days later that I had had an unread copy for six years! For me, the illustrations and emotions take the lead in Wonk, and the text follows. These are again genuine fables, even if they are localized in New Orleans. There are fourteen fables, each taking one or two pages. Text and illustration are combined. Only right-hand pages are used. I enjoy particularly The Impulsive Swallow, The Egret & the Catfish, The Butterfly & the Storm, The Goldfish and the Tadpole, and The Weed and the Hummingbird. The weakest part of Wonk's work is the rhythm of his texts.
